Everyone loves a mystery.

Everyone loves a mystery. "And they compelled a passerby, Simon of Cyrene, who was coming in from the country, the father of Alexander and Rufus, to carry His cross." Mark 15:21
So, who was Simon? Are we supposed to identify him because of his sons? They apparently were well known in Christian circles. Cyrene was an influential Libyan city with a Jewish community. It is possible Jesus carried His

cross as far as the city gate, then collapsed. Simon seems to have become a christian. Mark mentions the sons who were well known. Paul mentions Rufus and his mother in his letter to Rome, Rom.16:3. Though forcefully compelled, here is a man who literally picked up the cross to follow Him. I imagine both Rufus and Alexander never grew tired of telling the story of how their father carried Jesus cross. Simon met Jesus on Calvary road, his life was changed. We are asked daily to carry our own cross and follow Him. Very compelling, here an entire family is touched but isn't that the way it should be when we meet the Savior of the world? Br. Larry
